CICW has awarded Vital 91ÁÔÆæ, Vital Preaching Grants for over 20 years to teacher-scholars and worshiping communities in 45+ states and provinces and across 40+ denominations and traditions—including Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, non-denominational, and other Protestant communities.
While worship styles and practices vary greatly across these traditions, the grant projects typically explore at least one of CICW’s ten core convictions related to worship. Explore the hundreds of projects we’ve funded across both streams of the program.
To create works of art for five multicultural congregations under the direction of Nancy Chinn
To formulate a thoughtful and creative interdisciplinary introduction of a new hymnal through worship team leadership, adult church school class, and banners illustrating theological themes of the hymnal
To develop an educational program of Fine Arts in 91ÁÔÆæ for children and youth
To evaluate and expand an arts enrichment program that will impact public worship
To equip ten pastors from congregations of different geographic and ecumenical contexts to creatively preach on worship and sacrament in a way that combines the worshiper's reflection with Biblical stories and images
To sponsor a 91ÁÔÆæ Arts Conference, including the areas of drama ministry, vocal and instrumental music, and other related worship arts.
To provide education about worship, to train youth in the arts, and to empower them to participate in and lead worship
To conduct a series of workshops that focus on the role of art and its impact on worship
To research theological, liturgical and philosophical rationale for thoughtful integration of the dramatic arts in worship in North American congregations, and to present this at a series of national conferences on both drama and worship
To create a fine arts gallery in their sanctuary, in conjunction with contemplative worship services
