Cynthia Blomquist Eriksson

Dr. Cynthia Blomquist Eriksson is a clinical psychologist who serves as dean of the School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary. Her teaching and scholarship are centered on trauma, spirituality, culture, and diversity, illuminating the psychological risks faced by individuals in high-stress or traumatic environments. Her research has focused particularly on risk and resilience factors related to the needs of cross-cultural aid and mission workers.

In her public presentations on trauma-informed ministry, Eriksson explores the lamentations in scripture and how such expressions are essential to someone’s recovery and relationship with God. Her work emphasizes the importance of creating spaces for honest expressions of grief, pain, and lament before God.

Eriksson notes that “in the deep work of trauma recovery, understanding the human response to tragedy and grief is especially important. This knowledge orients us to a position of grace as we work to create places of safety, rituals of grief and connection, and opportunities to connect for trauma survivors.” She is deeply committed to empowering leaders to support resilience and recovery in their communities.
